Recreation Travel Tips :: Grand Canyon Vacation Grand Canyon Vacation:Planning Your Next Vacation at the Grand CanyonThere's more than one Grand Canyon vacation. From adventure treks along the Colorado River to day trips in a luxury helicopter, almost anything is possible. So, keep reading for a breakdown of some of the most popular ways to see, explore and enjoy the Grand Canyon experience. Simple Day Trip Visits Most visitors drive to the Grand Canyon from either Phoenix or Las Vegas. The drive from Phoenix is about 4 hours and there's plenty of parking at the national park. In the peak summer seasons, visitors must park their cars and ride on the park's free bus transit system, which takes you to and from each lookout point. The entrance fee is $25 for a vehicle and $12 for a pedestrian or cyclist. That entrance fee grants you 7 days of admission. Visiting the park as a day visitor in the winter means the North Rim is closed due to snow, but you also get to take in all the majestic views without the summer crowds. Helicopter Tours Make your Grand Canyon vacation an experience to remember with a helicopter ride over the canyon rim. Trips leave from Las Vegas, Sedona, close to the canyon and even Phoenix. Popular companies include Papillon, Maverick and Viator. Mule Rides Mule rides into the Grand Canyon are offered as both day trips and overnight excursions. They're booked through the lodges at the canyon (http://grandcanyonlodges.com) and can be booked up to 13 months in advance. However, they book up fast, particularly during the peak summer months. The cost for a day trek down the canyon's Bright Angel Trail is $153.95 per person and go right down to the Colorado River. Colorado River Trips River rafting and ferry trips are a great way to add some adventure to your Grand Canyon vacation. They run from 1 day to 25 day full excursions and are typically run by private companies. For more information, visit the Grand Canyon National Park's rafting information site at http://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/whitewater-rafting.htm.
