Fort Lauderdale Deep Sea Fishing: Planning a Deep Sea Fishing Trip in Fort Lauderdale

If you're considering taking a Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing vacation, but aren't sure who to book, how much it typically costs, where to stay or what you should bring, then keep reading for valuable tips and tricks that will make your holiday a success.

Finding Boat Charters in Fort Lauderdale

The two most popular venues for finding deep-sea fishing charter boats in Fort Lauderdale are the Hall of Fame Marina and the marina at Pier 66. The Hall of Fame Marina is situated on Seabreeze Boulevard and has the biggest number of deep sea charter companies, all vying for your business.

The best way to find a charter isn't online, but rather to take a stroll down to the marina. This gives you a chance to meet captains face-to-face and negotiate prices.

To find the Pier 66 Marina, drive towards SE 17th Street. Like the Hall of Fame Marina, the best way to find a boat and captain here is to tour the marina. You'll get a chance to actually see the boats, meet your crew, get a feel for the quality of equipment and negotiate a competitive price.

How Much You Should Budget for Deep See Fishing

When booking a Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing charter, you should expect to pay between $400 and $500 for a four-hour charter and around $600 to $1000 for an eight-hour private charter.

Often the rate you pay will depend on the quality of the boat, the experience of the crew, the size of the charter, the equipment provided and the distance traveled. Due to the recent increase in the price of gas, you'll find that many captains are starting to charge a fuel surcharge between $50 and $100, depending on the size of the boat.

What Level of Fishing Experience You Need

Most deep sea fishing charters are geared towards all levels of fishers – from the never-touched-a-pole-before fisher to the experienced angler. A good fishing charter will be able to offer instruction, advice and help pulling in your fish if you're not comfortable.

They can also process, store and pack your fish for shipping if you want to take it home. More experienced fishers can opt for a simple, charter-only tour that focuses on getting you to the best fishing spots instead of on training.

What to Pack

The majority of Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing charters will include all your gear rental and equipment in your charter rental price. But, you should ask if lunch or drinks are provided, as you may need to bring your own. To keep yourself safe and comfortable, always pack sunscreen, glasses, a change of clothes and a hat.
